Community Event in Marsa

On Saturday 20th October 2018, Kopin, in collaboration with the Marsa Local Council, realised a community fun event at Marsa Primary School (San Ġorġ Preca College). Promoting integration of different communities living together in the same locality was the underlying subject of the event, held as part of the European project Snapshots from the Borders.

Some highlights from the event:

Miss World Malta, who is collaborating with Kopin, introduced her project “Beauty with a purpose”, promoting the importance of integration, whilst the former Miss World Malta opened the event with a few songs of hers, followed by a great Venezuelan music combo, who kept up the good vibes.

Works by Maltese photojournalist Darrin Zammit Lupi, which belonged to his Islelanders photo exhibition documenting boat migrants on their journey to Europe, were exhibited during the event and drew quite some interest from the participants.

Representatives of Qormi LEAP Centre and the Kellimni project from SOS Malta also attended the event, providing information on their activities and support services offered to the community.

Apparently very excited about the promised bouncy castle at the event, the first two very young guests showed up an hour earlier at Marsa Primary and even helped setting up the venue. Aside from the bouncy castle, games for kids, a magician and a face painter provided for happy children’s faces. Soon we were surrounded by Spidermen, princesses and even some formidable zombies!

A variety of Fair Trade and organic products were offered by Core Green Malta, whilst none of the participants had to go hungry or thirsty with Ann’s Van providing yummy and healthy sandwiches and lemonades as well as free coffee. Additionally, awesome free Ethiopian food was provided by One Love – one could not get enough of it.

The variety of activities provided ensured that all participants coming from Marsa and beyond got together and, regardless of their origin and background, found what they have in common and came together as a community.

The Snapshots from the Borders project is co-financed by the European Union and is implemented in Malta by Kopin and the Marsa Local Council.
